julie blackmon: haute photography: family portraiture

In Boulder, dare I say, we have little if any arts and culture scene. Our humble, but growing BMOCA for contemporary arts tries to educate the public by being open for free on Saturdays at the local organic farmers market. (The BMOCA has recently gotten some tax dollars for a grant to renovate and the interior now looks better than ever--especially the entrance.) This is where I discovered and was blown away by the avant guard stylings and genius of local photographer Julie Blackmon. Julie's photography to me is a narrative on the complexities and absurdities surrounding home life, rife with chaos, comfort, tradition and adaptation. I am dying to have a family portrait done by her now. I have not seen anything so creative and fresh for awhile! The photographs shown are from her series 'Domestic Vacations'.

The line is also shown at one of my favorite stores in the whole world, Paxton Gate. Bravo Giovanna!!!

something that belong in my bike basket

Even though it is raining like mad everyday in Colorado, I could do with one of these handy dandy portable radios as an accessory for my bicycle. This Solar Powered AM/FM radio has ahand crank to supplement its solar capabilities. Crank it up for one minute and the radio will play back for thirty minutes. This extremely portable radio can be purchased here for $25.

tom price: plastic fleece

Tom Price, a very innovative and creative Londoner, has taken surplus fleece textiles and melted them together back to a solid plastic form to create some colorful and interesting lounge chairs. Price works almost exclusively with plastic, this line called “From Now to Eternity” highlights the use of plastic in clothing, nylon & polyester. Seems quite comfortable too, to have a hard seat and softer arms.
